1947 NY Knicks-One of only three current NBA franchises in place since the Basketball Association of America's inaugural season (1946/47), the New York Knickerbockers prevailed in professional basketball's first-ever contest (vs. Toronto Huskies, November 1, 1946). Offered here is a multi signed New York Knickerbockers program from that very first campaign. Issued at Madison Square Garden for the March 13, 1947 contest between the Knicks and the St. Louis Bombers, this 12-page publication is complete with hardwood-related text, statistics and black-and-white images of Knicks players and their contemporaries. On one of the scoring grids on the center pages, 14 Knicks principals have signed in blue ink, their pennings project "9-10" strength. John Bunn-(D. 1979 HOF)As a coach, teacher, lecturer, and prolific writer, John Bunn was a national and international authority on basketball. First playing and coaching under Hall of Famer Phog Allen at the University of Kansas, Bunn moved on as head coach at Stanford, building the Cardinal program into a national power. Bunn's teams played a coast-to-coast schedule, a rarity in those days, which helped to establish West Coast basketball. In 1937, Stanford won the Helms Foundation National Championship behind Hall of Famer Hank Luisetti. Bunn, who also coached at Springfield College (1946-56) and Colorado College (1958-63), initiated many rule changes, most notably the elimination of the center jump following a field goal in 1937. Due to his extensive foreign travel, Bunn was dubbed the "American Ambassador of Basketball." For his tireless contribution, the Basketball Hall of Fame annually presents an award in his name. Ernie Calverley-(D)basketball guard for the University of Rhode Island. His famous "shot heard round the world," a midcourt shot at Madison Square Garden in the National Invitation Tournament, helped get the Rams into the NIT final against the University of Kentucky, which URI lost. Ray Felix-(D. 1991) A 6' 11" center from Long Island University, Felix was selected by the Baltimore Bullets with the first pick in the 1953 NBA Draft. He quickly became the NBA's first dominant African-American center, winning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award in 1954 after averaging 17.6 points and 13.3 rebounds. Felix was also the second African-American (after Don Barksdale) to be named an All-Star. In his nine seasons in the league, which he spent with the Bullets, New York Knicks, Minneapolis Lakers, and Los Angeles Lakers, Felix averaged 10.9 points and 8.9 rebounds, and he retired in 1962 with career totals of 6,974 points and 5,652 rebounds. Bob Feerick-(D. 1976) A 6-3 guard from Santa Clara University, Feerick played for the Washington Capitols from 1946 to 1950, the NBA's first four seasons of existence (the league was known as the Basketball Association of America during the first three). Playing under coach Red Auerbach, he was named to the All NBA First Team during 1947 and 1948 after averaging 16.8 (second behind Joe Fulks's 23.1) and 16.1 points per game respectively. In 1949, the league's first season as the newly formed NBA, the Capitols named Feerick player-coach. In 221 games, he scored 2936 points for an average of 13.3 per game. After his short pro career, Feerick returned Santa Clara to head-coach its basketball team. In addition to coaching the Capitols while still an active player, Feerick also was Wilt Chamberlain's coach with the San Francisco Warriors during the 1962-63 season. The franchise had just relocated from Philadelphia and hired Feerick, the native San Franciscan, to replace Frank McGuire, who resigned rather than make the move with the team. The Warriors finished 31-49 in their first year in San Francisco after losing to the Boston Celtics in each of the previous three Eastern Division finals. The following season, Alex Hannum replaced Feerick as coach. He was nominated into NBA 25th Anniversary Team on 1961. We offer a signed gpc postmarked 1949. $49

Larry Foust-(D. 1984 at the age of 56) He played12 seasons in the NBA.A 6'9" center from LaSalle University, Foust was selected by the Chicago Stags in the 1950 NBA Draft, but the Stags franchise folded before the start of the 1950-51 NBA season, and Foust joined the Fort Wayne Pistons. On November 22, 1950, Foust scored the winning basket in a 19-18 Pistons victory over the Minneapolis Lakers, the lowest scoring game in NBA history. Foust later joined the Lakers in 1957, and he also spent two-and-a-half seasons with the St. Louis Hawks, retiring in 1962 with 11,198 career points and 8,041 career rebounds. Signed gpc $125

Bernard Peck Hickman-(D. 2000)is best known as the man who turned the University of Louisville men's basketball team into one of the nation's best. The Cardinals never had a losing season in Hickman's 23 seasons as head coach; prior to his arrival the program only had 11 in 33 seasons. Coach Hickman led Louisville to their first championship on a national level by winning the NAIB in 1948. In 1956, his team headed by All American Charlie Tyra won the NIT Championship, then considered to be the real championship instead of the NCAA Tournament. From 1954 to 1967, Hickman doubled as head coach and athletic director, a position he would hold full time until his retirement in 1973. One of Hickman's last acts as athletic director was to hire UCLA assistant coach Denny Crum, who would lead the program to two NCAA titles and six final fours en rout to the College Basketball hall of fame. Babe McCarthy-(D. 1975) McCarthy was one of the ABA's most beloved characters. He was also the dean of ABA coaches. In the first year of the ABA, McCarthy coached his New Orleans Buccaneers to a 48-30 record, and then beat Denver and Dallas in the Western Division Playoffs, before losing in seven games to Pittsburgh for the league title. He was the first ABA coach to reach the 200 victory plateau. During his seven years of ABA coaching, he was named ABA Coach of the Year twice (1969 and 1974), and coached in three ABA All-Star Games (1968, 1970, and 1974). Before coaching in the ABA, McCarthy had coached at Mississippi State, where his teams won 169 games, lost 85, and won or shared four SEC championships. In March 1975, McCarthy passed away as a result of colon cancer. We offer a very rare ALS on a gpc (postmarked 1974) that he writes about his greatest thrill with great detail. Call for details $249

James Naismith-(D. 1939) Canadian physical education instructor who invented basketball in 1891 at the YMCA Training School (now Springfield College) in Springfield, Mass. Drazen Petrovic-(D. 1993) had such artistic skills on the basketball court that those who saw him play called him the "Mozart of the Parquet." An offensive force with limitless range on his perfectly-released jump shot and explosive moves to the hoop, Petrovic once scored 112 points in a 1985 Croatian League game by hitting 40 of 60 shots from the field. Petrovic was a dominating player in international play. He starred in the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games and led BC Cibona to the European Cup (1987) and National Cup (1988) Championships. He also guided his Real Madrid Spanish league team to the European Cup Championship (1989) and led the Yugoslavian National Team to victory at the European Championships that same year. Petrovic's skills propelled him into a brief career in the NBA, cut short by his tragic death at the age of 28 in a car accident in Germany. He was elected to the Basketball HOF in 2002. Mendy Rudolph-(D. 1979) was a professional basketball referee in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 22 years, from 1953 to 1975. Regarded as one of the greatest officials in NBA history, Rudolph officiated 2,112 NBA games (a record held at retirement) and was the first league referee to work 2,000 games. He was also selected to referee eight NBA All-Star Games and made 22 consecutive NBA Finals appearances. He was elected to the Basketball HOF in 2007 which was quite a shock to Basketball collectors. John "Honey" Russell (born May 31, 1902 in Brooklyn, New York, died November 15, 1973) was an American basketball player and coach. He turned professional after his sophomore year of high school, playing for numerous early 20th century pro teams, including many in the American Basketball League. Paul Seymour-(D. 1988) was an American basketball player and coach. A 6'1" guard, he played collegiately at the University of Toledo, and had a 12-year career in the NBA and its predecessor, the Basketball Association of America (BAA). He played his first season for the Baltimore Bullets of the BAA; the remainder of his career was with the Syracuse Nationals. He was a three-time All-Star. For a good part of his career, Seymour was a player-coach for the Nats. Seymour later became a successful coach in the NBA, coaching four different teams in eight seasons. Nick Vanos- (D. 1987 at the age of 24) was a basketball player for the Phoenix Suns basketball team. The San Mateo, California native was selected 32nd by the Suns in the 1985 NBA Draft, after playing collegiately at Santa Clara. He played for the Suns as a center on the team.His career with the Suns only lasted two years before coming to a tragic end. On August 16, 1987, Vanos boarded Northwest Airlines Flight 255 for a trip to Phoenix, Arizona. The McDonnell-Douglas DC-9 crashed on takeoff, killing 154 passengers and crew, as well as two motorists. Four-year-old Cecelia Cichan was the only survivor of the crash. Signed 3x5 card. RARE $295

Super John Williamson-(D. 1996 from kidney failure) As a rookie Williamson landed with the New York Nets of the American Basketball Association as a free agent for the 1973-74 season. Williamson quickly entered the New York starting lineup despite being a rookie. After Williamson became a starter the team's fortunes quickly turned for the better and the team ended up winning the ABA Championship that season. Williamson was named to the 1974 ABA All-Rookie team. Continuing with the Nets, Williamson had a remarkable performance in Game 6 of the 1976 ABA Finals. He scored 28 points, with 16 of them coming in the fourth quarter, leading the Nets to come back from 22 points behind to win the game, the series and the ABA championship. Julius Erving & Super John Williamson-Williamson played for the Nets in the ABA and died of kidney failure related to diabetes on November 30, 1996. Max Zaslofsky-(D. 1985). One of the great Jewish stars of the National Basketball League/National Basketball Association (NBL/NBA) star from 1946 to 1956 with the Chicago Stags (1946 to 1950), New York Knicks (1951 to 1953), Baltimore and Milwaukee (1954), and Fort Wayne (1954 David "Pep" Tobey to 1956). In 1971, upon commemoration of the NBA's twenty-fifth anniversary, Zaslofsky was named to the League's Silver Anniversary Team. Zaslofsky led the NBL in scoring in 1948 (1,007 points with 21.0 game average) and was a first team NBL All Star in 1947, 1948, and 1949. He was an NBA All Star in the League's 1950 premier season. He joined the Stags following two years in the U.S. Navy and a brief stop at Brooklyn's St. Johns University. When he retired in 1956, Zaslofsky was the third highest scorer in NBA history with 7,990 points. He led the NBL in scoring in 1948 with a 21-point average and was the NBA free-throw champion in 1950 with an 84.3 percentage. Signed gpc postmarked 1949 $95
