1962 Chicago Zephyrs NBA team Official Cage Newsletter Vol 1 - #3 – Jack McMahon

We offer a very rare NBA – 1 year team – Chicago Zephyrs 4 page Newsletter Volume #1 – No. 3 – 4 pages that would grade NR MT condition (there are 2 folds in the newsletter as this was mailed) . Front page features an article about the Zephyrs playing their home games in South Wabash Building at the Coliseum; first game on October 20th (remember, the newsletter is dated from July 1962).  Big anticipation for the Chicago NBA franchise to play against the Cincinnati Royals and Oscar Robertson.  Also features a note that Jack McMahon had been named head coach.

The inside has some great articles and photos.  There is a letter from club GM – Frank Lane (of baseball GM fame – Frank Trader Lane). There is an article about the Zephyrs already completing their first trade by GM Frank Lane (check out how many players he traded when he was involved in baseball).  Shellie McMillon, Al Ferrari, and a player to be named would be coming to Chicago.  Great shot of Charles Finley (of KC/Oakland A’s fame) buying the first season tickets.  Also an announcement of Si Green and John Turner signing with the team.

The back cover features the names of the winners of the team naming contest and a photo of Frank Lane, Dave Trager, and the winner of the contest holding up a faux uniform.

Try finding another one of these! SUPER RARE!!!! Measures 8.5” x 11” and dated July 1962.  This is much rarer than any program ever put out by the Chicago Zephyrs.
