1969 Baltimore Orioles AL Championship LeCoultre Wristwatch Watch Award

Just three years after winning their first World Series in the history of Baltimore baseball, the Baltimore Orioles compiled a 109-53 record under HOF manager, Earl Weaver. This was the first season that the American League was split into 2 divisions (AL East and AL West). The Birds finished 19 games ahead of runner-up; Detroit Tigers. They conquered the Minnesota Twins for the American Championship, but were upset in 5 games in the World Series to the 1969 Miracle Mets.

In honor of their league championship, the team awarded LeCoultre wristwatches to players, coaches, and important front office staff. This “LeCoultre” watch is 10 K gold filled and was given to trainer, Clay Reid. He started as an equipment manager with the Kansas City Athletics from 1956 to 1961. He joined the Orioles in 1961 and retired in 1983. During his career, he was involved in several World Series. Dial facade displays the Orioles logo with "American League Champions 1969" in block lettering along with the MLB logo (designed in 1969).

Unfortunately, the watch is not in working order and needs some professional repairs. The watch itself (a regular LeCoultre model – not a special award watch such as this) sells for $1,000-2,000 on the collector’s market. We’ve only seen one other 1969 Orioles LeCoultre watch in all of our years in the sports memorabilia business.
