Alan Ameche Scores Game Winning TD in Sudden Death Overtime Oversized Hy Peskin 1958 NFL Championship Game Original TYPE 1 Sports Illustrated Photo PSA/DNA

Just weeks after the New York Yankees would lose in a super close World Series to the Milwaukee Braves in the House that Ruth built; Yankee Stadium; The Colts would take on the favorite; New York Giants on December 28, 1958 for the NFL Championship.

Deadlocked at seventeen at the close of regulation, the game earned the historic distinction as the first Championship contest in NFL history to go into sudden death overtime, with Colts running back Alan Ameche dealing the fatal blow to the New York Giants with a third down one-yard to end the game.

The final score was Baltimore 23, New York 17 and this game has since become widely known as "The Greatest Game Ever Played.".

Offered is this oversized 11” x 14” artistic black and white matte finish photographer, taken by notorious Sports Illustrated photographer, Hy Peskin.  Hy captured this shot for the magazine that is rarely seen (as the press usually re-runs Ameche running in head on).  This is the aftermath, with Ameches still on the ground and the fans rushing the field to celebrate and, on their way, to tearing down the goal posts!

Proper stamps on the back of Sports Illustrated and a stamp of February 25, 1959 when this was used for publication! Incredible!!!
