Bessie Largent Signed Envelope First Female Baseball Scout in History D.1958

Teaming up with her husband Roy, the Largents formed a scouting duo for the Chicago White Sox from 1925-43 (signing over 150 players) that produced 25 big leaguers, including Hall of Famer Luke Appling. And Major League standouts such as Smead Jolley, Carl Reynolds, and Monty Stratton.

With each of them paid as an individual employee of the parent team, Bessie Largent became the first female scout in major league history.

Her husband passed away in 1943, by which time she was badly affected by arthritis and had to give up scouting. She was bedridden for a number of years before her death in 1958.

Largent's signature graces this 1950 postmarked envelope, graded PSA/DNA 9 MINT.  This is one of 2 Bessie Largent autographs that we know of in existence!
