Charles Augustus "Kid" Nichols (D. 1953) was a pitcher who played for the Boston Beaneaters, St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies from 1890 to 1906. He is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Nichols played minor league baseball for three teams until September 1889, when he signed for the Boston Beaneaters. After making his debut the following season and spending twelve seasons with the Beaneaters, Nichols spent a two-year sojourn in the minor leagues. He was dealt to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1904 and subsequently played for the Philadelphia Phillies, with whom he played his final game on May 18, 1906. He’s most famous for being the youngest pitcher to join the 300 win club.

Offered is a personal handwritten letter (7.25” x 10.5”) written on his stationary and dated May 24, 1949. The postmarked envelope is also included. He thanks the recipient, located in Detroit, for their kind words on his entry into the Hall of Fame. He mentions a niece in the hospital in Detroit, so he may be making a visit to the area soon. He writes, “Of all the many letters that I have received, and there are plenty of them in regards to my entry into the Hall of Fame, your letter stand out as the No. 1.”
