In 1949, the movie, “On the Town” was filmed in New York City. The movie was a musical featuring music by Leonard Bernstein and Roger Edens and won an Academy Award for Best Music and Scoring of a Musical Picture.

The story was about three sailors on shore leave in New York City. The film starred Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, and Jules Munshin (D 1970) who would sing the first version of “New York, New York.” An interesting side note is that Munshin also starred in the movie, “Take Me out to the Ball Game.”

During the filming, they shot scenes at the Statue of Liberty and got to know the crew of the Staten Island Boat – Circle Line. The three stars signed Statue of Liberty postcards for the crew of the boat. The offered postcard was signed for the captain of the ship.

In addition to the signed postcard, the winner will receive an original photo (5” x 7” in size) which features the three stars alongside the ship’s captain. This is rare opportunity to obtain an in-person vintage Sinatra autograph with impeccable provenance as it comes with a COA from the grandson of the captain attesting to the origins.

Letter of Authenticity from Richard Albersheim.
