George Textor (d 1954) stares into the camera with a haunted look in this original photo. He was a Major League Baseball catcher who played parts of two seasons in the majors, 1914 and 1915, for the Indianapolis Hoosiers and, following their move to New Jersey, the Newark Peppers.

This original photo measures 6” x 10”. A small portion of the bottom right corner is torn off and a larger portion of the top left corner is also torn off. There’s a small vertical ¼” tear midway across the top edge. There’s a 1.5” diagonal tear intersecting the left edge that extends directionally from top right to lower left. Further down on the left edge is another 1” tear that extend directionally from the top left to lower right. On the back, in the top left corner, some text written in pencil is cut and appears to read “Textor Hoosiers Feds, 1913.” In the middle in pencil is written “GEO/ TEXTOR Hoosier FEDS 1913.” Also on the reverse, an attached newspaper department stamp reads “TO BE RETURNED TO INDEX DEP’T BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE.” A dated stamp on the back is from May 19, 1914.

Original images of players in Federal League uniform are nearly impossible to find!
