Jim Thorpe (D. 1953) is considered one of the most versatile athletes of modern sports. He won Olympic gold medals for the 1912 pentathlon and decathlon, played American football (collegiate and professional), and also played professional baseball and basketball. He lost his Olympic titles after it was found he was paid for playing two seasons of semi-professional baseball before competing in the Olympics, thus violating the amateurism rules.
Offered is a Fabulous 8”x10.75” B&W program page showing Thorpe in ‘mid-kick’, boldly signed on the image inset (6”x8.75”). There is a fold that can be barely seen to the naked eye until up close inspection that goes through this, as this was part of a program. Some foxing to the edges. Gorgeous signature! Thorpe-signed images of any kind are exceedingly rare, especially in large formats like this one. This one is a beauty!
