It’s pretty much common knowledge that during the 1961 Major League baseball season, Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris were chasing the ghost of Babe Ruth; vying for the single season home run record. With Mantle’s injuries, Maris was able to jump out ahead and eventually broke the Babe’s record on October 1, 1961 with home run #61 off Boston pitcher, Tracy Stallard.

On September 2, 1961 before an almost packed house at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers by a score of 7-2. Maris pulled himself out of a 3 week slump to hit his 52nd and 53rd home runs during a double header off of Frank Lary and Hank Aguire. The official attendance was 50,261 fans, leaving very few full tickets left behind.

Today, although not super common, programs and ticket stubs from HR #61 can be fairly easily attained. Even then, they tended to bring several thousand dollars! However, finding tickets during the season, yet alone a full ticket (one that was never used) from one of Maris’ home run games can be a nearly impossible task. We’ve never seen a full run of HR tickets from the 1961 season.

Offered is what we believe to be one of the few full tickets that possibly still exist from the games that Roger Maris hit his 52nd and 53rd Home Runs of the season, which were partially responsible for guiding the Yankees to the World Series. The ticket is in fantastic shape and has been encapsulated and graded by PSA as a FULL ticket graded 5 – EX. Rarely will you see really nice tickets given a higher grade.

Start your run of Maris HR tickets now!
