1926-38 Mark Koenig Spalding No. 200 Autograph Model Store Model Game Used Bat – Key Member of the 1927 Yankees

Mark Koenig was a shortstop for the legendary 1927 New York Yankees, often called the greatest baseball team ever assembled. Born in 1904, Koenig played a crucial role in the Yankees' dominant season, batting .285 and providing steady defense alongside teammates like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

The 1927 Yankees went 110-44 and swept the Pittsburgh Pirates in the World Series. Koenig was the team's starting shortstop for most of the season, forming part of an infield that included Gehrig at first base. He had appeared in two previous World Series with the Yankees (1926, 1928) and was known for his reliable glove work and timely hitting.

After his Yankees tenure, Koenig played for several other teams including the Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs. He later became part of Cubs lore when his former Yankees teammates criticized the Cubs for only voting him a half-share of World Series money in 1932, motivating the Yankees during their sweep of Chicago. Koenig died in 1993.
