1930s Jim Oglesby Louisville Slugger Game Used Bat Philadelphia Athletics PCL Superstar

James Dorn "Jim" Oglesby (1905-1955) was a first baseman who played three MLB games with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1936 after an 11-year journey through the minor leagues.

MLB Career: Started the first three games of the 1936 season for Philadelphia before being spiked by Oscar Melillo in the third game. The injury became infected, ending his major league season. Went 2-for-11 (.182 average) in his brief MLB stint before being sold to the Kansas City Blues.

Minor League Excellence: Compiled outstanding statistics over 17 seasons (1926-1942), appearing in 2,304 games across 12 leagues with 14 different teams. Career .316 batting average with 2,782 hits, including 517 doubles, 123 triples, and 178 home runs. His best season came in 1935 with the Los Angeles Angels (PCL), hitting .350 with 237 hits and 24 home runs in 678 at-bats.

Career Journey: Started with the Okmulgee Drillers (Western Association) in 1926. Played in eight different leagues with nine teams before reaching the majors, showcasing the dedication required for players of that era to reach the top level.

Post-Playing Career: Managed in the minors from 1947-1950, including the Sioux Falls Canaries, Janesville Cubs, and Miami Eagles. Later worked as a security guard for Douglas Aircraft Corporation in Tulsa.

Personal: Born August 10, 1905; died September 1, 1955, at age 50 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while suffering from ill health and depression.

The bat derives from the collection of former Major League baseball player and PCL legend, Jigger Statz and was most likely obtained when Oglesby and Statz were teammates in Los Angeles.
