1930s Red Worthington Louisville Slugger Game Used Bat – 1934 St. Louis Cardinals Gas House Gang

Robert Lee "Red" Worthington (1906-1963) was an outfielder who played four MLB seasons with the Boston Braves and St. Louis Cardinals.

Career Highlights: Regular left fielder for Boston in 1931-1932, hitting .291 and .303 respectively. Led National League left fielders in assists in 1932, showcasing his powerful throwing arm. Had three outstanding minor league seasons (1928-1930) with the Cardinals' farm system, posting .352, .327, and .375 batting averages with 212, 202, and 175 hits. Narrowly missed the 1930 International League batting title by .001 to teammate Ripper Collins.

Career Setbacks: Injuries derailed his promising career—broke his ankle sliding on August 7, 1932, ending that season early. Vertigo limited him to just 17 games in 1933. Played only 41 games for Boston and 1 for St. Louis in 1934 before his MLB career ended.

Career Totals: .287 batting average with 298 hits, 69 doubles, 18 triples, 12 home runs, and 111 RBIs across 292 games and four seasons.

Background: Native of Alhambra, California, who batted and threw right-handed (5'11", 170 lbs). Began his 13-year professional career in 1925. Continued in the Pacific Coast League through 1937 before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Died December 8, 1963, in Sepulveda, California, at age 57.
