On March 26, 1960, the East West College All-Star basketball game was played at Madison Square Garden along with the preliminary game; the Metropolitan AllStar High School Game which featured the Brooklyn-Queens High School All-Stars vs the Manhattan-Bronx-Richmond High School All-Stars.
In the college game, two of the best players in the history of the game, Oscar Robertson and Jerry West, faced off against each other. West was joined on the East team by Lenny Wilkens, Tom Sanders, and Tom Stith, among others. Darrell Imhoff was among the players who joined the Big O on the West team. Tony Jackson of St. John’s was part of the East team (he would later be banned by the NBA for life, for getting caught up in the 1962 NCAA basketball scandals – same scandal that touched Connie Hawkins, Doug Moe, and Roger Brown). All of the players are pictured in the program.
The roster of players in the high school game, which included two legendary New York City high school players in Roger Brown of Wingate and Connie Hawkins of Boys High. The program stated that Brown was "one of the best ever."
For Hawkins, it says, "like Roger Brown one of the best ever." They were right on both accounts. The program, which is a total of 32 pages, is in nice shape for its’ age. It is completely intact and scored.
Rare piece of basketball history!!!
