Rube Marquard was a left-handed pitcher who spent his career with the New York Giants, Brooklyn Robins, Cincinnati Reds, and Boston Braves from 1908 to 1925. After being purchased by the Giants for the then-staggering sum of $11,000, he bounced back from an early slump to become one of the NL's best, winning at least 23 games in each season from 1911 to 1913. He led the league with 237 strikeouts in 1911 and 26 wins in 1912, while also setting a record with 19 consecutive victories. Marquard helped the Giants win three straight NL pennants and later contributed to Brooklyn pennant-winning teams in 1916 and 1920. He finished with a 201-177 record and 3.08 ERA, earning Hall of Fame induction in 1971.
Offered is perhaps, Marquard’s best image of him depicted in a Brooklyn Robins/Dodgers uniform from his 1920 World Series comeback year. This crystal-clear original 8" x 10" Type I photograph of Rube Marquard features the International stamping on the back (stamping from 1920-21).
Exceptionally rare!
