Waxey Gordon, born Irving Wexler in 1888 on New York's Lower East Side, rose from pickpocket to major Prohibition bootlegger under Arnold Rothstein. He controlled bootlegging across New York and New Jersey, earning millions before rivals Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky helped convict him of tax evasion in 1933. He later shifted to narcotics trafficking and died in Alcatraz in 1952. He was portrayed by Nick Sandow in seasons two and three of Boardwalk Empire as a Philadelphia gangster tied to Rothstein.
