Bruce Smith (February 8, 1920 – August 28, 1967) was an American football halfback from Faribault, Minnesota. He starred at the University of Minnesota, leading the Golden Gophers to back-to-back national titles in 1940–41 and winning the 1941 Heisman Trophy as the nation’s top player. After serving as a U.S. Navy pilot in WWII, he played briefly in the NFL with the Packers and Rams. Smith was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
