The 1945 World Series matched the Detroit Tigers against the Chicago Cubs, the Cubs’ last appearance in the Fall Classic until 2016. Detroit won the series in seven games to claim its second championship. Tigers ace Hal Newhouser earned victories in Games 5 and 7, while Hank Greenberg delivered key offense. With World War II still ongoing, many major league stars were serving in the military, leaving both rosters depleted. The Series is also remembered for the origin of the Cubs’ famed “Billy Goat Curse,” said to have begun during Game 4.

Offered here is a 5-inch celluloid disc displaying facsimile signatures of players from both the Tigers and Cubs on the front and back. The piece shows some toning (more so on the Tigers side of the disc), that has two punch holes as evidence of a previously attached hook-and-loop fastener. Produced by J.D. “Charlie” McCarthy.
