The 1948 Oakland Oaks finished atop the Pacific Coast League with a dominant 114–74 record. Oakland led the league offensively, scoring 1,012 runs, while allowing 849.

The roster featured a remarkable collection of talent, including Ralph Buxton, Loyd Christopher, Merrill Combs, Nick Etten, Ed Fernandes, Charlie Gassaway, Tom Hafey, Ray Hamrick, Lloyd Hittle, Earl Jones, Bob Klinger, Cookie Lavagetto, Thornton Lee, Gene Lillard, Dario Lodigiani, Ernie Lombardi, Billy Martin, George Metkovich, Jack Salveson, Ed Samcoff, Les Scarsella, Floyd Speer, Jim Tobin, Lou Tost, Frenchy Uhalt, Maurice Van Robays, Les Webber and Aldon Wilkie, all of whom reached the Major Leagues during their careers.

Managed by Casey Stengel, the Oaks combined depth, experience and firepower to secure one of the most impressive seasons in league history.

They would end up winning the PCL Championship.
