Don Newcombe (1926-2019) was a pioneering African American pitcher who broke baseball's color barrier alongside Jackie Robinson in 1947 with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The 6'4" right-hander became the first player to win the Rookie of the Year (1949), MVP (1956), and Cy Young Award (1956) - a historic triple crown achievement. His best season came in 1956 when he went 27-7 with a 3.06 ERA. Newcombe won 149 games over his 10-year career, helping the Dodgers reach five World Series. After baseball, he became an advocate for addiction recovery, having overcome his own struggles with alcoholism.Offered is an original TYPE I photo that measures 8x10 inches of Newcombe stamped on back May 1956.This photo is the image that was used for the 1957 team issued Jay Publishing Photograph*NOTE* - IMAGE of jay publishing photo is just an exemplar and does not come with the actual photo
