Joseph "Joe" Profaci (1897 to 1962) was the founder and longtime boss of the Profaci crime family, later renamed the Colombo crime family, one of New York's Five Families. Nicknamed the "Olive Oil King," he built wealth through both a legitimate olive oil business and organized crime. His authoritarian leadership sparked the First Colombo War with the Gallo brothers. Profaci died of liver cancer in 1962.
Offered is an original United Press International (stamped on back) TYPE I Photo that measures 10” x 8” in size. Stamped Dated June 27, 1931.

BROOKLYN, N.Y.: Joseph Profaci (wearing black coat), one of the three men picked up for questioning in the slaying of racketeer Albert Anastasia, is led into Brooklyn Police Headquarters November 21st. The three men were among the 65 gangsters who attended the hoodlum convention in Apalachin, N.Y., recently.
