Vern Mikkelsen (1928-2013) was a Hall of Fame forward for the Minneapolis Lakers, known as one of the NBA's first true power forwards. A rugged defender and strong rebounder, he played his entire career (1949-59) with the Lakers, earning six All-Star selections and four NBA championships alongside George Mikan. Mikkelsen averaged 14.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game over 699 contests, helping define the role of the modern forward with his physical play and durability.
