Tony Accardo (1906–1992), born in Chicago to Sicilian immigrants, rose from Al Capone's enforcer to the most powerful and longest-reigning boss in Chicago Outfit history. Nicknamed "Joe Batters" by Capone for his skill with a baseball bat, he led the Outfit through its most profitable decades, overseeing gambling, labor racketeering, and Las Vegas casino interests. Remarkably, he never spent a night in prison after a 1960 tax conviction was overturned. He stepped back from day-to-day operations but remained the Outfit's ultimate authority until his death, earning a reputation as one of organized crime's shrewdest survivors.
Offered is an original 9” x 7” TYPE I photo that was taken by Chicago Sun Times staff photographer, Gene Pesek of Chicago Mob Boss, Tony Accardo with his lawyers meeting in the courthouse hallway before his trial on Tax Evasion charges.
Original Paper caption attached to the back and stamped Sep. 1960.
