The 1965 Tigers finished 89 and 73, good for fourth in the American League. Al Kaline led the offense with a .281 average and strong all around play. Norm Cash added power with 30 home runs. Willie Horton broke out with 29 homers. Denny McLain emerged on the mound with a 16 and 6 record. The season showed the core that would contend for the 1968 championship.
