The 1969 AFL season was the league’s tenth and final campaign before the AFL-NFL merger. The powerful Kansas City Chiefs won the last AFL Championship, defeating the Oakland Raiders 17–7, then capped the season with a 23–7 victory over the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV. The season also marked the coaching debut of John Madden and featured a new four-team playoff format.
1969 AFL rookie debuts included:
Greg Cook Bengals QB (Bill Walsh called him the best QB he’d ever seen or coached – including Joe Montana)
Tommie Smith (Bengals)(1968 Olympic Gold Medalist and Civil Rights Leader)
Mercury Morris (star on the 1972 Miami Dolphins)
Charlie Joiner (HOF)
O.J. Simpson (HOF)
Offered is a season pass for the 1969 AFL season measuring approximately 3.75" x 2.25". The pass was never issued and remains blank. Interestingly, the space designated for the league president's signature was left unprinted. Given that the AFL was in the midst of its merger with the NFL during 1969, the omission may have reflected uncertainty surrounding the league's future administrative structure, although AFL President Milt Woodard continued to serve in that role through the merger.
Beyond RARE!!! The first we’ve ever seen!
