Danny Greene (November 14, 1933 – October 6, 1977) was an Irish-American mobster from Cleveland, Ohio known for his fierce independence and violent conflict with the Cleveland crime family. Greene rose from working as a longshoreman and union leader to forming his own crew, the Celtic Club, challenging Italian-American Mafia control of rackets in the city. His gang war with the Mafia in the 1970s involved dozens of bombings. After surviving several attempts on his life, Greene was killed by a car bomb in 1977. His life inspired the film Kill the Irishman.

Offered is an original 8” x 10” TYPE I photo that was taken by Ray Matjasic (Chief photographer) of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.  Stamped November 24, 1975. It shows Greene at the court house while on trial for the arson and attempted aggravated murder trial of William “Mo” Kiraly in retaliation for Kiraly’s May 12, 1975 bombing of Greene’s home.  Crazy Joe Gallo was also sought for the bombing, but couldn’t be found (at the period in time).
