Larry Bird dominated with 34 points, including 23 in the first half, and 16 rebounds, setting the tone early as Boston led wire to wire after opening the game on an 8–0 run. The Celtics went on to defeat Philadelphia in seven games, then advanced to the NBA Finals, where they beat the Houston Rockets in six games to win the 1981 NBA Championship, Bird’s first title and Finals MVP, cementing the Bird-McHale-Parish era.
