The 1985 Minnesota Twins were entering their 25th year in the Twin Cities, their fourth calling the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome home, and their 85th season overall in the American League. It was a year that showed promise but ultimately fell short, as the club finished 77–85, deadlocked for fourth place in the AL West — a full 14 games behind the division-winning Kansas City Royals, who went on to claim the World Series title.
At the plate, the Twins had plenty to build on. Leadoff man Kirby Puckett batted .288 and crossed the plate 80 times, while first baseman Kent Hrbek put together a strong campaign with a .311 average, 21 home runs, and 93 RBI. Tom Brunansky added pop to the lineup with 27 home runs and 90 RBI, and Gary Gaetti chipped in 20 home runs and 63 RBI.
On the mound, Minnesota finally had the makings of a legitimate rotation. Frank Viola led the staff at 18–14, with Mike Smithson (15–14) and John Butcher (11–14) giving the team three dependable starters for the first time in years. Out of the bullpen, Ron Davis was a bright spot, posting 25 saves on the season.
Offered is an Official American League (Bobby Brown) baseball signed by 28 members of the 1985 Minnesota Twins. Signatures include:
Kirby Puckett, Frank Viola, Kent Hrbek, Gary Gaetti, and Tom Brunansky among others. These players formed the foundation of the 1987 and 1991 World Series Championship teams. Very nice, early career Kirby Puckett signature.
