Although Willie McCovey played hurt throughout much of his 22-year career, the Giants first baseman used a sweeping swing to belt 521 homers and collect more than 2,200 hits. He led the National League in homers three times and in RBIs twice, also pacing the circuit in slugging percentage for three consecutive years (1968-70). McCovey earned National League MVP honors in 1969, 10 years after earning the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 1959. He was elected to the baseball HOF in 1986.

In the same year that McCovey was enshrined into the Baseball Hall of Fame, he and former teammate, Willie Mays  went to spring training in Scottsdale, Arizona as special assistants (special instructors – coaches).

Offered is this jersey that McCovey wore during spring training.

The jersey features the “Wilson” manufacturer’s tag on the left front tail, complete with wash instructions, and is accompanied by size “44” and “TAPERED” flag tags. Below, an embroidered strip tag reads “44  86,” marking the year and player number. The front proudly displays “GIANTS” in bold lettering, while the back showcases the player number “44” and the name “McCOVEY” on a white nameplate. All lettering and numbering are meticulously crafted in black on orange tackle twill, reflecting the team’s iconic colors.

Great alternative to breaking the bank by buying a game worn jersey that Willie wore during his playing days!
