The 1988 San Francisco 49ers overcame an inconsistent start, falling to 6-5 before winning four of their final five games to finish 10-6 and capture the NFC West. In the playoffs, San Francisco dominated Minnesota and Chicago to reach Super Bowl XXIII. Joe Montana then led a legendary 92-yard game-winning drive, capped by a touchdown pass to John Taylor, defeating Cincinnati 20-16. The championship was the 49ers' third under coach Bill Walsh.
