On April 17, 1976 the Oakland Athletics held their Home Opener at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, hosting the visiting Baltimore Orioles. This would be the first time that the two teams would face each other since their blockbuster trade that sent Reggie Jackson to Baltimore (who still hadn’t reported to the O’s).
The Orioles won 6-1 on Jim Palmer’s 3-hitter, while Mike Torrez (former Oriole) took the loss.
Future Mexican Baseball Hall of Famer, hit his first career Home Run in the Major Leagues, 4 days after his MLB Debut. He would hit 26 more over the course of the rest of his career that lasted into the Major Leagues until 1980 (sitting out in 1979). In 2020, Mora was selected as the starting left fielder of the Mexican League Historic Ideal Team by a committee of baseball journalists and historians. In February 2025, Mora was selected by a committee of journalists as the left fielder for the Mexican League Centennial All-Time Team on the occasion of the league's hundredth anniversary.
Offered is a ticket stub from that historic game!
