Art Rooney Sr. (D. 1988) often referred to as "the Chief", was the founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, an American football franchise in the National Football League (NFL), from 1933 until his death. Rooney is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was an Olympic qualifying boxer, and was part or whole owner in several track sport venues and Pittsburgh area pro teams. He was the first president of the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1933 to 1974, and the first chairman of the team from 1933 to 1988.Ray Mansfield (d. 1996 at the age of 55) was a durable and dependable center for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1964 to 1976. Nicknamed "Ranger," he played in 182 consecutive games, a franchise record at the time. Mansfield was a key part of the Steelers' dominant offensive line, helping the team win back-to-back Super Bowls (IX and X). Originally drafted by the Eagles in 1963, he found his true home in Pittsburgh, where his leadership and toughness helped establish the foundation of the Steelers' 1970s dynasty.Offered is a Pittsburgh Steelers payroll check made out to Ray Mansfield for $2887 dated November 16, 1970 (we presume this was the check cut for the Kansas City Chiefs game that the Steelers lost 31-14 on 11/15/1970) and signed on the front by Rooney and on the back by Ray Mansfield.Historic!
