Bill Hartack (1932–2007) was one of horse racing's greatest jockeys, winning five Kentucky Derbys (1957, 1960, 1962, 1964, 1969), four Preakness Stakess, and the 1960 Belmont Stakes aboard Celtic Ash. Inducted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame in 1959 at age 26, Hartack appeared on the covers of Sports Illustrated in 1956 and 1964 and Time magazine in 1958. In 1967, he authored the Sports Illustrated series A Hard Ride All The Way, detailing his remarkable career and often-contentious relationships within the racing world.
Unlike many Hall of Fame jockeys who regularly signed through the mail or at racetracks, Hartack was generally not known as a prolific signer after retirement.
Offered is Bill Hartack’s personally owned 1977-82 United States passport. Hartack used this passport to make trips to Australia, Hong Kong, Macau, and New Zealand.
Signed twice by Hartack. Comes with an original card from his estate auction (that shows provenance), held several years back.
One of a kind!
