Bill Stewart (D. 1964) was a rare dual-sport figure who excelled in both baseball and hockey. A National League umpire (1933–1954), he worked over 3,000 MLB games, four World Series, and famously officiated Johnny Vander Meer’s second straight no-hitter in 1938. In hockey, Stewart was the first U.S.-born NHL referee and later coached the Chicago Black Hawks to the 1938 Stanley Cup, becoming the first American-born coach to win the Cup. He was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.
Offered is a cut signature signed in pencil that was originally part of a group signed album page that has been mounted to a 3x5 index card. Tough autograph!
