Chuck Hughes Signed AUTO 3x5 Index Card D.1971 Only NFL Player to Die During an NFL Game BAS

Chuck Hughes was an NFL wide receiver whose career is remembered for a tragic on-field death. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1967 to 1969 and the Detroit Lions from 1970 to 1971. On October 24, 1971, during a game against the Chicago Bears at Tiger Stadium, Hughes collapsed late in the fourth quarter moments after catching a 32-yard pass. He was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead at age 28. An autopsy revealed severe, undiagnosed heart disease that caused a fatal heart attack. The Lions later retired his No. 85 jersey in his honor.
