Casey Stengel played outfield for six National League clubs from 1912 to 1925, batting .284 lifetime with a reputation for hustle and humor. His finest moments came as a New York Giant under John McGraw, where he thrived in the 1923 World Series, delivering two clutch game-winning home runs against the Yankees, including a dramatic inside-the-park shot in Game 1. After managing in the minors and a rocky stint with the Dodgers and Braves, he became a Yankees legend, winning seven World Series titles in 12 seasons. He was enshrined into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966.
Offered is a gorgeous crystal clear striking 8” x 10” portrait shot original TYPE I photo of Stengel pictured in his New York Giants uniform as a player that dates from 1922-23. Very rare to find an image of Stengel this early in his baseball career.
Fantastic fresh discovery with period 1920s International Newsreel stamp on the verso. We’ve never seen a TYPE I photo of this image offered before!
