Cool Papa Bell was a legendary Negro Leagues center fielder renowned as one of baseball’s fastest players. A switch hitter, Bell starred for the St. Louis Stars, Pittsburgh Crawfords and Homestead Grays, winning two Negro World Series championships and earning eight All-Star selections. He batted .325 in recorded Negro League play and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974.

Offered is a signed personal check made out to the Department of Internal Medicine for $25 that is dated March 1, 1985.  Signed in black flair tipped pen, “James Bell”
