From the SABR website:"Hall of Famer Monte Irvin, speaking to Negro League historian James Riley, had this to say about his teammate Johnny Davis's talent: "Perhaps too many gifts. Had Davis not divided his time between pitching, catching and playing the outfield, Johnny might have starred in the Majors."Davis' professional baseball career spanned from 1940-54 which includes his time in integrated minor league baseball. He spent his Negro League career primarily with the Newark Eagles. He was a 3 X East West All Star Game selection (1944-45 and 1949).He was also a part of the 1946 Newark Eagles World Series Championship team.He passed away in 1982 at the age of 65.Offered is this one of a king TYPE 1 photo, circa 1945 of Hooker in his Eagles uniform at the ballpark that measures 3.25" x 4.5" in size.Appears that Hall of Famer, Biz Mackey is trotting in the background.Derives from the estate of a former player.SUPER rare photo showing Hooker warming up while waiting for his turn in batting practice.Several bats and a few teammates are seen in the background.Original TYPE 1 LOA from PSA/DNA for the photo included.*note NOT FOR SALE*
