Les Horvath (1918-1995), the son of Hungarian immigrant parents, grew up in Cleveland. He lettered in football at Ohio State in 1940, 1941, 1942, and 1944. Horvath was a right halfback on the 1942 national championship team. In 1943, he was enrolled in dental school and ineligible for football. When the eligibility rules changed in 1944, Horvath returned to Ohio State as a tailback in the single wing and quarterback in the T formation. The Buckeyes went 9-0, won the Big Ten, and finished ranked No. 2 nationally. Horvath rushed for 905 yards and passed for 345, ranking second in the nation in rushing and third in total offense. He was a unanimous All-American, Big Ten Most Valuable Player, and Heisman Trophy winner.

Horvath graduated from dental school in 1945, was commissioned as a Navy ensign, and was discharged in July 1947. He played three seasons of professional football with the Rams and Browns (1947-49), then practiced dentistry in Los Angeles for the remainder of his career. He is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Offered is Horvath’s Birth Certificate card that measures 4” x 2.5” (approximate size). This was issued by the St. Joseph County Health Department Dated 10-2-86 and embossed by the county seal.  This is an official document that you would order when applying  for a passport.  Issued with his legal birth name, “Laslo Horvath.”
