Leroy "Satchel" Paige (1906-1982) was one of baseball's greatest pitchers, famed for his longevity, showmanship, and pinpoint control. A Negro Leagues legend with the Kansas City Monarchs, he dazzled fans with his blazing fastball and signature hesitation pitch. In 1948, at age 42, he became MLB's oldest rookie with the Cleveland Indians, helping them to a World Series title. Paige later pitched for the St. Louis Browns and Kansas City Athletics, earning two All-Star selections. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1971, he remains a symbol of talent, perseverance, and the fight for racial equality in baseball.Offered is a very rare postal return receipt signed by Satchel Paige Postmarked 3/13/1972. Paige has signed with a very rare form of his signature in blue ink, "Leroy R Paige," as he was born Leroy Robert Paige. We have only encountered this version on signed contracts. To give you context of what exactly this is; we've given a definition below.Encapsulated authentic by PSA/DNA and given an AUTO GRADE for the signature as a GEM MINT 10.It doesn't get any better than this!!!!WHAT IS A POSTAL RETURN RECEIPT?Apostal return receipt(often called the "green card," USPS Form 3811) is a service you can add when sendingCertified Mail, Registered Mail, or other trackable servicesthrough the U.S. Postal Service. Here's what it does:The recipient signs the green card when they receive the mail. That signed card is then mailed back to you, serving asproof of deliveryand showingwho signedand thedate delivered. It's often used for legal, financial, or official correspondence where you need verifiable confirmation that the addressee got the item.Return Receipts and the History of Autograph CollectingSome innovative autograph collectors, frustrated by athletes or celebrities known as reluctant signers, found a clever workaround. They attached a USPS Form 3811 green card (Return Receipt) to their request letters. This required postal workers to hand-deliver the mail and obtain a signed receipt, effectively providing collectors with a genuine autograph.
