William Thomas "Bill" Burns, nicknamed "Sleepy Bill" played as a pitcher in Major League Baseball for five different teams from 1908 to 1912. Burns earned his nickname for his noticeable lack of intensity on the mound. Bill Burns is best known for his involvement in the alleged fixing of the 1919 Chicago White Sox World Series, dubbed the Black Sox Scandal. This original photo (10 x 8 inches) offers some niece features and is in great condition with just some minor creasing around the edges. Markings on the reverse include some pencil notations. Historical shot from a dark time in baseball!! We believe this may be a 40's or 50's print.
