Stan Coveleski (1889–1984) was a right-handed spitballer who starred for Cleveland from 1916 to 1924, posting four consecutive 20-win seasons and winning three complete games in the 1920 World Series with a record 0.67 ERA. Traded to Washington, he rebounded with a 20-5 record and AL-best ERA in 1925. He finished 215-142 with a 2.89 ERA over 14 seasons and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969.
Offered is a crystal clear original 8” x 10” TYPE I photo of one of the best pitchers of his era. Circa 1919-1920. Fresh to the hobby. Never seen before photograph!
Few would argue that “The Big Pole” looked like the quintessential ballplayer.
