Ty Cobb (D. 1961) was one of baseball’s greatest hitters, starring primarily with the Detroit Tigers from 1905 to 1926. Cobb won 12 batting titles, captured the 1909 Triple Crown and earned the 1911 AL MVP. He retired with 4,189 hits and a .366 career batting average, still the highest in major league history. Cobb was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936.
