Walter Duster Mails (D. 1974) was a left handed pitcher who starred in the Pacific Coast League, winning over 200 minor league games. With the San Francisco Seals, he was a workhorse, winning 20 games in 1928 and logging heavy innings across multiple seasons. In the majors, he went 32–25 and helped the Cleveland Indians win the 1920 World Series.

Sam Chapman (D. 2006) was a two sport standout at the University of California from 1935 to 1938, starring in both baseball and football. An All American in college, he debuted with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1938, hit .322 in 1941, and totaled 180 home runs with 773 RBI over an 11 year MLB career.

Offered is a one-of-a-kind KING of the DIAMOND (red and blue stitching) baseball made by Gold Smith (produced in the 1930s) signed in black steel tipped pen on the sweet spot by Walter Mails that he wrote Seals under his name.  Displays as a single.

On another panel, Sam Chapman has signed his name in black steel tipped pen while he was a star at the University of California (Berkeley).  Both Bay area stars.  Mails was on the roster of the Seals from 1934-36.

Our guess is that Chapman was a guest of the Seals at one of their games.

Very rare unique signed baseball!
