Buck Weaver was one of baseball's finest defensive third basemen, helping the Chicago White Sox win the 1917 World Series. During the 1919 season he batted .296, collected 169 hits, and hit .324 in the World Series. Although he denied participating in the Black Sox Scandal, Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis banned him for life in 1921 for knowing about the fix and failing to report it. Weaver spent decades unsuccessfully seeking reinstatement.
Offered is an incredibly rare 6 1/2 x 8 5/8 inch International Film Service (stamped on back) original photo that actually dates from the 1919 season (Black Sox). Note that the "5" was handwritten on the original glass plate when developed as part of the image at the time, and was later wiped off.
Incredibly cool shot of Weaver hitting a baseball during pre-game practice.
CRYSTAL CLEAR FRESH DISCOVERY!!!!
Encapsulated authentic as a TYPE I photograph by PSA/DNA
