Lorenzo "Piper" Davis (1917-1997) was a gifted multi-sport athlete best known for his Negro League baseball career and later work with the Harlem Globetrotters. A versatile infielder, he starred for the Birmingham Black Barons from the late 1930s through the 1940s, serving as both player and manager. Davis was highly respected for developing young talent, most notably mentoring a teenage Willie Mays during his early years with the Black Barons. After baseball, Davis joined the Harlem Globetrotters, showcasing his athleticism and charisma on the basketball court as part of their world tours. His career reflected both skill and leadership, bridging two iconic eras of Black sports history.Offered is a team issued photo by the Harlem Globetrotters that measures 10" x8" in size.It appears to be a re-strike done in the 1950s or possibly even into the 1960s.Regardless, this is a very rare vintage photograph.
