The 1953 NFL season was the league's 34th, featuring 12 teams competing in the Eastern and Western Divisions. The Cleveland Browns dominated the regular season at 11–1, while the Detroit Lions went 10–2 and captured the Western title. Detroit defeated Cleveland 17–16 in the NFL Championship Game, repeating as champions. The season also introduced a new Baltimore Colts franchise and featured MVP Otto Graham leading the league in passing.
This 3.5" x 2" season pass is made out to Frank Cassidy, granting him admission to any game during the 1953 NFL season. The pass shows light creasing consistent with being carried in a wallet throughout the season — evidence this ticket was well used.
Cassidy could have witnessed the Pro Football Hall of Fame debuts of: Doug Atkins, Rosey Brown, Chuck Noll, Jim Ringo, Joe Schmidt, and Bob St. Clair
As well as the notable rookie debuts of: Charlie Ane, Tom Brookshier, Rudy Bukich, Al Carmichael, Lew Carpenter, Bill Forrester, Kenny Konz, Big Daddy Lipscomb, Ted Marchibroda, Marv Matuszak, Dick Modzelewski, Bill Pellington, Don Steinbrunner (one of only two NFL players to die during the Vietnam War), Jack Stroud, Harland Svare, Willie Thrower, and Ray Wietecha
Lots of historic firsts!!!
