The 1959 Giants finished third in the National League at 83–71 in their final year at Seals Stadium. Powered by stars Willie Mays, Orlando Cepeda, and a dominant pitching trio of Jack Sanford, Johnny Antonelli, and newcomer Sam Jones, the Giants stayed in the pennant race until late September. The season’s defining moment came on July 30 when rookie Willie McCovey debuted with a four-hit performance off Robin Roberts, launching a blistering .354 campaign that earned him NL Rookie of the Year despite playing only 52 games. The club moved to newly built Candlestick Park the following season.
