Billy Martin was a fiery second baseman known for clutch postseason play with the New York Yankees, batting .333 in the 1953 World Series and contributing to multiple championship teams. He began with the Oakland Oaks under Casey Stengel in 1947 and 1948 and was a 1950 All Star. As a manager, he led the Yankees to a World Series title in 1977. Martin died tragically in a 1989 automobile accident.
Offered is an original TYPE II Photo on period 1970s-early 80s Kodak paper produced from the original negative of this photograph taken during the 1947 or 1948 Oakland Oaks season (Martin played under Stengel in Oakland during these two years). This 10” x 8” photo depicts Casey arguing with the umpire as assistant coach, Johnny Babich looks on.
Billy Martin is to the right of Stengel, jabbering in the background. Signed in blue ballpoint by Martin.
Unique, possibly one of a kind shot of Billy Martin pre-rookie. This is a special piece!
*NOTE* Type II - A photograph, developed from the original negative, during the period (more than approximately two years after the picture was taken).
