Bill Terry, first baseman and player-manager for the New York Giants (1923–1936), batted .341 across 14 seasons with a career .992 fielding percentage. Nicknamed "Memphis Bill," he remains the last National League player to hit .400, batting .401 with 254 hits in 1930. He managed New York to three NL pennants and the 1933 World Series title. Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1954.
